Best Day Trips From Larnaca

Larnaca is one of the most popular places to stay in Cyprus, and it’s easy to see why. With its laid-back seafront, various restaurant options, and convenient location close to the island’s main airport, it’s a fantastic base for a Cyprus holiday. Many visitors spend a few days exploring the city itself before heading off to discover more of the island.

The good news is that some of Cyprus’ most impressive attractions are surprisingly close by. Whether you’re interested in ancient archaeological sites, mountain villages, dramatic coastal scenery, or some of the island’s best beaches, you’ll find plenty of options within easy reach of Larnaca.

What we love most about travelling around Cyprus is how quickly the landscape changes. In less than two hours, you can leave the coast behind and find yourself surrounded by pine-covered mountains, wandering through traditional villages, exploring centuries-old ruins, or swimming in crystal-clear water along the island’s eastern coastline.

In this guide, we’re sharing the best day tours from Larnaca and the experiences that make each destination worth adding to your Cyprus itinerary. Can you do day trips from Larnaca without a car?

Yes, it’s possible to do some day trips from Larnaca by bus and without a car, but your options will be more limited. The island’s intercity bus network connects major destinations such as Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, Ayia Napa, and Protaras, making these some of the easiest places to reach by public transport.

For destinations in more rural areas, such as mountain villages and smaller communities, bus services can be infrequent and often require multiple connections. If you’d rather avoid the planning, guided excursions are another convenient option and are available for many of the island’s most popular attractions.

That said, if you want the freedom to explore at your own pace and visit some of Cyprus’ lesser-known places, hiring a car in Larnaca is by far the most convenient way to get around.

6 Best Day Trips From Larnaca

    1. Cape Greco & Ayia Napa

If you’re looking for dramatic coastal scenery, crystal-clear water, and some of the island’s best beaches, visiting the area around Cape Greco is one of the best day trips from Larnaca. Located around 50 minutes southeast of the city, this protected national park is known for its rugged limestone cliffs, sea caves, and turquoise water that make this stretch of coastline one of the most beautiful in Cyprus.

The journey from Larnaca to Nissi Beach takes around 40 minutes, making it easy to combine one of Cyprus’ most famous beaches with the natural attractions of Cape Greco. Cape Greco sits between Ayia Napa and Protaras, giving you plenty of options for how to spend your day. You can explore the famous Sea Caves, walk across the Bridge of Love, enjoy the coastal viewpoints, or spend a few hours relaxing on one of Ayia Napa’s best beaches. Thanks to the short distances between the main attractions, it’s easy to visit multiple spots in a day without feeling rushed.

One of the most popular experiences in the area is a boat trip around the Blue Lagoon. Many cruises stop here for a swim, giving you the chance to enjoy some of the clearest water on the island. It’s one of those places that genuinely looks as good in real life as it does in the photos.

If you’re travelling without a car, a Larnaca to Cape Greco bus journey is possible via Ayia Napa, although it requires more time and planning than driving.

Alternatively, you can join a guided tour from Larnaca to Ayia Napa that combines Cape Greco with stops at the Blue Lagoon, Sea Caves, Love Bridge, and more.

    2. Nicosia

Just 45 minutes from Larnaca, Nicosia offers a completely different side of Cyprus. As the island’s capital and the last divided capital in Europe, it’s a fascinating place where two cultures exist side by side. Spending one day in Nicosia is less about beaches and coastal scenery and more about history, culture, and discovering the unique character of the city.

Start your visit in the historic centre, where Venetian city walls surround a maze of narrow streets, traditional buildings, and lively squares. One of the main highlights is Ledra Street, a bustling pedestrian area lined with shops, cafés, and restaurants that makes a great place to wander and soak up the atmosphere. Joining a walking tour is a fantastic way to learn more about the city’s complex history and uncover stories you might otherwise miss.

One of the most unique experiences on a day trip from Larnaca to Nicosia is crossing the Green Line into the northern part of the city. Here, you’ll notice a different atmosphere shaped by Ottoman influences, historic mosques, and bustling markets. Being able to explore both sides of the capital in a single day is something you won’t find anywhere else in Europe.

Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, shopping, or simply experiencing a different side of Cyprus, Nicosia makes for an interesting and rewarding day out from Larnaca.

Take a private walking tour with a local guide to get an insider’s perspective on the attractions and the city’s history, enhancing your visit with deeper insights.

    3. Pano Lefkara

Located around 35 minutes from Larnaca, Pano Lefkara is one of the most charming villages in Cyprus and an easy day trip if you’d like a break from the coast. If you’re looking for a slower-paced day centred around local culture, traditional architecture, and village life, it’s hard to find a better option so close to Larnaca.

The village is famous for its intricate Lefkaritika lace and fine silverwork, both of which have been produced here for generations. According to local legend, even Leonardo da Vinci visited Lefkara and purchased lace for the Duomo di Milano. Whether the story is true or not, the village remains one of the best places in Cyprus to discover traditional craftsmanship.

Spend your time strolling through the cobbled streets, browsing local workshops, and stopping at one of the village cafés for a coffee or leisurely lunch. Unlike some of Cyprus’ more famous attractions, Lefkara isn’t about ticking off major sights or rushing between aatractions. The real appeal lies in wandering through the village and soaking up its relaxed atmosphere.

While you can easily spend several hours exploring the village, Pano Lefkara is often better suited to a half-day trip than a full day out. It also combines well with nearby villages and attractions if you’d like to make the most of your day.

    4. Omodos & Troodos Mountains

If you’d like to experience a more traditional side of Cyprus, a trip to Omodos and the Troodos Mountains is definitely one of the best things to do in Cyprus. Located around 1 hour and 20 minutes from Larnaca, this region feels completely different from the island’s coastal resorts, with cooler temperatures, forest-covered mountains, and villages that have retained much of their local character. If you’ve spent most of your holiday by the beach, this is one of the best day trips for discovering a slower and more authentic side of Cyprus.

Omodos is often considered one of the most beautiful villages in Cyprus. Its village square is surrounded by stone-built houses, artisan shops, traditional tavernas, and the historic Monastery of the Holy Cross, one of the area’s most important landmarks. The village is also known for its wineries, making it a popular stop for visitors interested in local wine and food.

After exploring Omodos, continue your day through the Troodos Mountains, where winding roads connect a collection of charming villages. Combining the ancient city of Kourion with modern Limassol makes for one of the most varied day trips from Larnaca. Located around one hour from the city, Kourion is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus and a must-visit for anyone interested in the island’s history. Even if archaeological sites aren’t usually at the top of your itinerary, Kourion has a way of winning people over thanks to its spectacular clifftop setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient city was once one of the most important kingdoms in Cyprus. Today, you can explore remarkable ruins, including the restored Greco-Roman theatre, the House of Eustolios, and several beautifully preserved mosaic floors. As you wander through the site, you’ll also find the remains of Roman baths, public buildings, and an agora that offer a glimpse into daily life centuries ago.

After spending a few hours exploring Kourion, continue to Limassol, which is just a 20-minute drive away. Cyprus’ second-largest city offers a lively mix of old and new, from the charming streets around Limassol Castle to the modern seafront promenade that stretches along the coastline. It’s a great place to enjoy lunch, browse the shops, or simply take a walk by the sea.

    6. Paphos

A day trip from Larnaca to Paphos is one of the best ways to explore the island’s rich history. Located around 90 minutes west of Larnaca, Paphos is home to some of Cyprus’ most important archaeological sites and is often considered one of the best places to visit on the island. If you enjoy discovering the stories behind a destination rather than simply relaxing on the beach, Paphos is one of the best places to visit in Cyprus.

The city’s biggest highlights are the Tombs of the Kings and the Paphos Archaeological Park, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Despite its name, no kings were buried at the Tombs of the Kings, but the impressive underground chambers and rock-cut tombs are fascinating to explore. At the archaeological park, you’ll find some of the finest Roman mosaics in the Mediterranean, many of which are remarkably well preserved.

Between sightseeing stops, take some time to stroll around Paphos Harbour and the waterfront. The area is lined with restaurants, cafés, and views of Paphos Castle, making it a pleasant place to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere before continuing your explorations

While the drive from Larnaca to Paphos is longer than some of the other day trips on this list, the wealth of historical attractions makes the journey worthwhile.
